Bottom Dollar Food Joins 'Hunger Has a Cure' Campaign

June 5, 2007

SALISBURY, N.C. - Bottom Dollar Food joins Food Lion in its annual "Hunger Has a Cure" campaign. From June 5 through July 7, all Bottom Dollar Food stores will participate in the campaign to support local food banks affiliated with the America's Second Harvest Network. The June 5 start date of the campaign is significant because it coincides with National Hunger Awareness Day, an annual observance in an effort to raise awareness of hunger in America and to raise donations to help end it.

Bottom Dollar Food customers can support their local food banks and feed the hungry during the month-long campaign by purchasing ready-made, discounted boxes of food for $4.99. All food donations will stay in the communities where given to feed the hungry.

The boxes of food will go directly to a local food bank affiliated with America's Second Harvest. The Food banks in the Washington, D.C., area include the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank, Capital Area Food Bank, Maryland Food Bank and Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. Affiliates in North Carolina are Second Harvest Food Bank of NW NC Inc. and Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina.

"Bottom Dollar Food is committed to the communities we serve," said Bottom Dollar Food Director of Operations Tom Anderson. "And by participating in the Hunger Has a Cure campaign, Bottom Dollar Food can give back to these communities and continue in our efforts to be a good corporate citizen."

America's Second Harvest-The Nation's Food Bank Network is the largest charitable domestic hunger-relief organization in the country with a Network of more than 200 Member food banks and food-rescue organizations serving all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. America's Second Harvest Network secures and distributes more than 2 billion pounds of donated food and grocery products annually; and supports approximately 50,000 local charitable agencies operating more than 94,000 programs including food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, after-school programs and Kids Cafes.
