Bottom Dollar Food Makes 'Fast Feet' Donation to Mooresville Soup Kitchen

December 23, 2008

SALISBURY, N.C. - December 23, 2008 - Mooresville's new Bottom Dollar Food store on Hwy 150 hosted Ron Lee, WBTV - Channel 3's Cam Man and Alex Roraback, the Shaker Guy from the local CiCi's Pizza, for its Fast Feet to Fight Hunger race through the store this morning to collect nonperishable food items for the Mooresville Soup Kitchen.

Cam Man won by a "food slide" with a total of $651.28, compared to Alex's $374.28. In three minutes, the racers filled 10 baskets with food - the orders totaled just over $1 thousand - that Bottom Dollar Food is donating to the soup kitchen. Store Manager Anne McCulloh gave each contestant a certificate and thanked them for their participation.

"During these tough economic times, and especially this time of year, we want to help our communities in need," said Jamie McGuire, marketing manager for Bottom Dollar Food.

Bottom Dollar Food also last week donated two pallets of staple canned vegetables - a total of 170 cases - to the Mooresville Soup Kitchen, an agency of the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina.

Jody Schwandt, executive director of the Mooresville Soup Kitchen, said the number the soup kitchen serves has continued to increase. "The community has seen our needs and acted on them," said Schwandt. "We would like to thank Bottom Dollar Food for all [they] do to make a difference in our community."

"We are happy to assist the Mooresville Soup Kitchen and hope these donated items will be used to provide many meals for members of the Mooresville community," said McGuire. "Bottom Dollar Food hopes to make cooking easier through the holidays and help fill the extra need for food this year."
