BOTTOM DOLLAR FOOD OPENS FIRST PROTOTYPE STORE

October 1, 2008

SALISBURY, N.C. - Bottom Dollar Food announces today the opening of its new 20,000 square-foot prototype store at 247 Plaza Drive East in Mooresville, North Carolina. This is the first of its kind for the full-shop discount grocery store, which was introduced by Food Lion LLC in 2005. Bottom Dollar Food currently has 27 stores located in parts of North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland.

"Our new store in Mooresville signals a significant redesign of our current locations," said Paul LaCroix, vice president of Bottom Dollar Food. "The goal in this design is simply to right-size the store, have the right product and deliver incredible savings to our customers."

The previous locations were existing Food Lion stores that were converted into Bottom Dollar Food. Since opening, the company has conducted significant research to see how they can improve upon the already bright, cheerful décor and extensive selection of national brands and private-label products, fresh produce and quality meats at discount prices that has attracted customers since they opened. Some of those findings can be seen in the new prototype.

LaCroix adds, "Customer segmentation has been used to find the very best item selection for this store, as well as making use of the unique things learned in current Bottom Dollar Food stores, which allows us the opportunity to deliver something really special."

For example, the new store will feature a walk-in produce cooler that doubles as part of the sales floor allowing customers to shop in the cooler while still feeling like they are in the store and not the backroom.

And, the new store will be decorated in Bottom Dollar Food's signature colors of bright orange and lime green, and store employees wear uniforms in the same colors. The bright, cheerful stores also have humorous phrases adorning the walls which read, "With these prices, there's no need to cry over spilt milk."

A concept introduced by Food Lion LLC in 2005, Bottom Dollar Food is a full-shop discount grocer offering the most popular national brands and private-label products at everyday best prices. The chain of 27 stores in parts of North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland is redefining discount shopping with its lighthearted atmosphere and focus on fresh produce and quality meats.
